Obituary for Maceo (Jack) Brown

On Saturday July 14, 1928 a baby boy was born to the late Mr. Sam and Homer Brooks Brown, Sr., in San Felipe, Texas. They named him Maceo “Jack” Brown.

“Jack” attended Richard Elementary School in San Felipe, Texas as well as attending
the local churches.

In 1961 he married Willie Ruth Harris to this union they were blessed with one
daughter, Shirley.

“Jack” confessed his hope in Christ at an early age. He united with the Church of the Living God in Sealy, Texas. He served as an usher and whatever was asked of him.

“Jack” moved to Brookshire, Texas to live with his sister Celestine Brown “Les”. He became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Brookshire, Texas, where he served under the leadership of Reverend Lee Jones, Jr. Again he resumed his role, serving on the usher board and served faithfully until his health began to fail him.

He was recognized on September 20, 2009 at St. Paul as a dedicated and faithful member serving without complaining. When “Jack” health began to fail, he moved back to San Felipe, Texas to live with his daughter, Shirley. He united with New Prairie View Baptist Church where he served under the leadership of Reverend Charles Tompkins, Jr.

“Jack” was a hard worker. Throughout his life time he worked on various jobs that were available to him such as working in the hay fields, cotton fields and a mechanic at one of the local car dealerships.

“Jack” loved fishing and hunting. He would often hunt in the San Felipe “co-operation”. He would bring home from his hunt; squirrels, rabbits, deer and raccoons. He could cook a raccoon dinner so good, that the meat would fall off the bones. He would tell those who didn’t think the meals he prepared from his hunt were appetizing he would say “don’t’ knock it until you try it”. In his past time, he enjoyed playing dominoes with family and friends. You could always find him sitting under the “tree” playing dominoes.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Seth and Allie Lee Josey Brooks, parents, Sam and Homer Brooks Brown, three sisters, Lottie Mae Gilbert, Verna Lee Garrett and Anna Mae Brooks and one brother, Sam Brown, Jr.
