Obituary for Johnnie Mae Ashton

Johnnie Mae Pikes Ashton, who was affectionately called “Honey”, was born on August 3, 1943 to the union of the late Lawrence and Clessetine Pikes in Hungerford, Texas. She attended school in Hungerford and would later graduate from Hungerford Consolidated High School.

Early in life, she confessed Christ as her savior and would serve him faithfully. She walked in faith dutifully as a Sunday School Teacher at Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Thomas and at Cedar of Lebanon in Fayetteville, Texas for many years. She would later unite with New Horizons Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roydrick Miller where she was loved and named as one of the Mothers of the Church.

She would meet and later marry Mr. John Ashton on June 25, 1962, and to this union, Five Daughters: Elizabeth, Rose, Edna, Brenda and Kim and Two Sons: Johnnie, Jr. and Mark were born. Later, the Lord would increase her family unit with the adoption of Eric and Ashley Ashton.

Honey worked as Sweet Briar Nursing Home as a Nurse Aide for 30 Years and would gain licensure as a Rehabilitation Therapist. Later, she received her license as an Activity Director and served in that capacity as Sweet Briar until her retirement. She loved to sew and cook. One of her specialties was her Chicken and Dressing. Honey also loved to play dominoes with her patients at work.

Johnnie Mae is preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her Husband: John Ashton, Sr.; One Son: Samuel Pikes; One Grandson: Isaiah Ryan Runnels; Three Sisters: Maxine Ware, Earnestine Edwards and Larnce Marie Miller; and Two Brothers: John Raymond Pikes and William Pikes.

Honey leaves to celebrate her life: Three Sons: Mark Ashton (Glenda), Johnnie Ashton, Jr., and Eric Ashton; Six Daughters: Elizabeth Nunn (Kenneth), Rose Nunn (Donald), Edna Watson, Brenda Runnels, Kim Ashton, and Ashley Ashton; Twenty-Two (22) Grandchildren, Twenty-Seen (27) Great-Grandchildren; Two Sisters: Dora Ann Pikes and Annie Mae Pikes; A Special Family Friend: “A Plus One Son” Obie Wilder, Her Caregiver: Steven and Lovelyn Yemi-Esa and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
