Obituary for John Earl Jackson, Sr.

Sergeant John Earl Jackson known to many as Pooh Bear was born October 18, 1942 to Mr. and Mrs. Elliott and Eva Jackson in the Sauney Stand Community in Chappell Hill Texas; there were five boys born to this union. Elliott Jr., John Earl, Raymond Lee, Roy Melvin and Curtis Jackson. In 1961 he graduated from Pickard High School in Brenham Texas where he excelled in baseball and found a love for the game. On April 7,1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served as an Aircraft mechanic at Maxwell Airforce Base in Montgomery, Alabama. After receiving the rank of Sergeant, he served one tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 with the tactical squadron of the 437 Field Maintenance Squadron. On April 5, 1968 he received an honorable discharge from Charleston Air Force Base in Charleston, South Carolina. He finished his reserve obligation on April 6, 1970.

During his time in the Air Force he married Bertha Jean Jackson; to this union they were blessed with seven children; Tammy, Wendy, John Jr., PaulaEtta, Natosha, Charlotte and Joshua.

After spending time in Houston, John and Bertha returned to Bellville where he began working for Quanex (Bellville Tube) and later retired after twenty-four years.

He was ordained as a Deacon by Reverend David Green at Bethany Baptist Church in Houston, Texas and later served at several churches; Grant’s Chapel under the leadership of Reverend Ida Kenner, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Reverend Michael Barber and, Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robert McFarland. He served faithfully and made every day of his life a mission to show the love of Christ. He helped all who asked and all who needed, and never expected anything in return. He loved unconditionally and truly from his heart.

He departed from this life and returned to Glory and to his Father God in Heaven on June 4, 2019. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Hattie Jackson, Andrew and Mary Marshall; his parents Elliott and Eva Jackson; brothers; Emmitt, Elliott, Raymond Lee, Roy Melvin and Moses, granddaughter Valencia Bellard and great grandchild Aniyah.

Pooh Bear’s Legacy will be carried on by his seven loving children Tammy Lynn Carroll(Russell) of Bellville, Texas, Wendy Elaine Jackson of Sealy, Texas, John Earl Jackson Jr. (Christa) of Brenham, Texas, PaulaEtta Mayes (Raymond) of Bellville, Texas, Natosha Lashelle Jackson of Bellville, Texas, Charlotte Monique Shepherd (Raven) of Hempstead, Texas, and Joshua Elliotte Jackson (Thea) of Houston, Texas and brother Curtis Jackson (Arthur Mae) of Missouri City, Texas; three sister-in laws; Martha Jackson, Houston, Texas, Bobby Jackson, Chappell Hill, Texas, Pearlene James, Hempstead, Texas, two brother-in-laws; Johnny Jackson, Bellville, Texas and Lionel Nunn, Brookshire, Texas; Twenty-two Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
