Obituary for Betty Queen Haywood

Betty Queen Smith was born on February 13, 1942 to the late Ms. Earnestine Smith in the Brazos River Bottom Community, Bellville, Austin County, Texas. She was such a beautiful child, that her mother and siblings gave her the name “Cutie”.

Betty attended the Austin County High School, Sealy, Texas. After graduating from school, she attended Franklin Beauty College in Houston, Texas where she received her diploma in cosmetology.

On April 21, 1963, Betty married the love of her life, Jessie James Haywood. They were blessed with eight children, Jessie James, Jr., Zachary, Jacquelin, James, Earnestine, Joyce, Debra and Sharon Haywood.

Betty gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member at Neal Bend AME for many years and later she moved her membership to Isaiah AME Community Church, Bellville, Texas, where she served under the leadership of Pastor Angela Powell. She was a faithful member. She served as the assistant secretary, stewardess, the missionary board and on the usher board where she served until her health fail her.

Betty loved working as a beautician in Bellville, Texas. She enjoyed the work she did in making sure the ladies in the community look good.
Betty enjoyed gardening, potting plants and flowers. She had a green thumb, whatever cutting she touches it would grow; even though she had a green thumb her favorite color was red.

Betty also enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren and was all ways willing to give a helping hand to whom ever needed.

Betty is preceded in death by her mother, Earnestine Smith, husband, Jessie James Haywood, mother-in-law, Susie M. McHenry, three children, Jessie James Jr., Zachary, Jacquelin, two sisters, Ida M. Crawford, Wanda “Cherry” Johnson, and one brother, James “Jr.” Penrice, Sr.

She leaves to mourn her precious memories, four daughters; Earnestine Crawford, (Carl), Joyce Marie Griggs, (Daniel), Debra Renee Gains, (Tony), Sharon Kaye Cater (Gerald); one son, James L. Haywood; two special cousins; Ruby “Baboo” Senegal, Ruby Penrice; eight grandchildren, Carl Crawford, Jr., Ernest Henderson, Jr., Katara Crawford, Ashley Reese, Asia Gains, Kyndal Carter, Corie Wilson, Kearstin Carter; four great-grandchildren, Branden Crawford, Braxstyn Crawford, Summer Reese, Cameron Brown, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts cousins and friends. She will truly be missed.
