Obituary for Sonny Baker

One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever. Ecclesiastes 1:4

On Tuesday, July 20, 1937, a son was born to the late Ida Lee Thompson and Emitt Andrews, and he was named Son Ira.

Sonny was the first born of eleven children. He attended Ralph J. Bunche School in Brookshire, Texas. He played football, basketball and ran track. His favorite subjects in school were math, reading and writing.

He confessed accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of the Curry Chapel Baptist Church where he served under the leadership of Pastor Ira Gamble.

He met the Love of his life, Ms. Willie Mae Clark, whom he married and they were blessed with four children; Ida Jan Baker Brown (Minister Elton), Sonny Raydell Baker, Sandra Baker Jackson (Airrion) and Cathie Renae Baker.

Sonny worked in the rice fields in Brookshire and Katy, Texas. Later he went to work in construction. He worked for H. B. Zachery Company until he retired.

Sonnys love for music (the guitar) came early for him as a young child. While he was supposed to be working, cleaning and sweeping the floor, he pretended that his broom was a guitar. He had a love for the guitar as he taught himself to play. Sonny never had guitar lessons, but had an ear for music. Truly a God given gilt gift. Sonny played with several different bands in his youth. His guitar was his company and relaxation.

Sonny was a wonderful cook and always invited others to come and eat with him. He loved sharing his blessing with others. He would never let anyone leave his house without sharing whatever he had with them.

He loved fishing in the Brazos River and picking pecans. Sonny loved his Ford pickup truck. He would buy cans of paint and paint his truck blue, or any color he wanted; and paint his truck tires.

Proceeding Daddy into Glory was his wife, Willie Mae, his mother, Ida Lee, father, Emmitt Andrews, step-father, James Vaughn, Jr.; daughter, Cathie Baker, brothers; James Bernard, Kenneth Ray, Reverend Larry Don Patrick (brother in law) sister, Bertha Jean Price Grant; Niece: Rhonda, and grandparents.

Daddy left his earthly home to meet Jesus, on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 7:30 am, at the Methodist Hospital.

Daddy leaves sweet memories to cherish his children; Jan and Minister Elton Brown, Sonny Rydell Bubba Baker, Sandra Boss Lady and Airrion Jackson; sister, Debra Ann Vaughn Patrick, brothers; Charles Edward Price, Sr., Gregory Thomas Vaughn (Rachel), Norman C. Vaughn (Betty Joe); Perry Gene Vaughn (Pastor Beverly); eleven grandchildren; Jacyln Baker, LaShonda Brown, Janesa Baker, Christopher Brown, Aaron Brown, Monique Baker, Sonique Baker, Rolencia Baker, Demetrian Ames, Sonny Rydell Baker, Jr. Joshua Angton Baker, Airriona Pudding Jackson; two great grandchildren; Rybia Golbert, Aiden DeLeon papa Tanner and two unborn great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunt, uncle, cousins and friends. .. Now Daddy is walking on the street of the city of pure gold. Revelation 21:21b
